Member Spotlight: Jennifer Scher - SSG Commercial, LLC

Jennifer Scher is the Co-Owner, Vice President, and In-House Counsel for SSG Commercial LLC, a family-owned business specializing in the development, redevelopment, asset management, and property management of commercial real estate investments. These investments include retail, professional, medical, and self-storage properties. With a passion for enhancing local communities, SSG brings essential services—such as grocery stores, hardware stores, and coffee shops—into neighborhoods, providing residents with daily necessities conveniently close to home. Their developments strike a balance between large national retailers and local businesses, ensuring a diverse and community-focused mix. The company remains actively engaged with local residents, incorporating their needs and ideas into their vision for neighborhood development.
Founded by Jennifer's grandfather, Stuart S Golding, in the 1960s, SSG has grown across three generations. With Jennifer, her husband, Jarrod Bray, and her father, David Scher, carrying the legacy forward, managing a substantial portfolio of approximately 1.1 million square feet of commercial real estate in the Tampa Bay area, while also investing in the various new developments.
Together, Jennifer, Jarrod, and David oversee all aspects of SSG with the team focusing on acquisition and development of new projects. Jarrod oversees the design, construction, and maintenance operations, while Jennifer oversees the business side, including owner and tenant relations, leasing, insurance, and legal matters. Their involvement in the family business marked a significant career shift for both of them. Prior to their move to Tampa in 2018, Jennifer was a medical malpractice defense attorney and partner in Los Angeles, and Jarrod was an experiential designer. The transition to a new career and a new city was challenging, but Jennifer credits the support and mentorship of CREW Tampa Bay leaders, particularly Robyn Coppola, Ashley McRae, LaShawn Bates, Nancy Phaneuf Manning, and Megan Proulx Dempsey, along with many others, with making the change much smoother and helping guide her on her leadership journey in CREW. SSG is a Platinum Annual Sponsor of the chapter.
Jennifer joined CREW Tampa Bay in 2019, after much urging and support from members Anne Pollack and Jane Levin, and quickly became an active member, contributing both locally, and on a national level to CREW Network. She is a member of the CREW Network Retail Council, and in 2024 she served on the CREW Network Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee, continuing her passion for advancing young women and educating future leaders. Jennifer currently serves as the chapter’s CREW Network delegate and is honored to serve as President of CREW Tampa Bay in 2026. Jennifer regularly participates in Leadership Summits and Convention, and in 2023 she completed the Leadership Certificate Program. Jennifer has won several CREW Tampa Bay Excellence Awards for her contributions to CREW, including the Rising Star award in 2020, the Member of the Year Award in 2021 and the President’s Award in 2023. This year, Jennifer was honored with the Rising Star Impact Award by CREW Network at the Annual Convention in Vancouver, Canada. This prestigious award, given to one recipient out of more than 14,000 members globally, recognizes emerging leaders within CREW and the commercial real estate industry, highlighting Jennifer’s outstanding volunteer contributions, engagement, and leadership within the organization and the real estate industry.
Now as a business owner, Jennifer finds deeper inspiration and fulfillment in being part of the fabric of the Tampa Bay community through SSG’s community projects and philanthropic efforts. She and her family are also committed to giving back, actively participating in various community and philanthropic organizations. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys reading, walking with her miniature Australian shepherd, playing video games, and exploring new restaurants with chef tasting menus.
