“Those who lead by example and demonstrate passion for what they do make it much easier for their followers to do the same.”– Marshall Goldsmith

When asked, “What is one thing, industry-related or not, that you’ve learned and that has made an impact throughout your career thus far?” Alicia Tanner’s response was, “Leading by example.” The above quote by Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, a long-time leadership coach and author, came to mind. Alicia not only practices leading by example, but she demonstrates a strong passion for the life path she’s been given as well as the career path she’s made for herself.

After gaining years of experience as Project Manager and Project Architect within the commercial real estate realm, Alicia recently took on a new leadership role as President of Third Lake Design & CM Services, LLC (“TLD”). Located in Ybor City, TLD is a unique firm which specializes in commercial architecture, interior design, and construction management services, allowing the firm to oversee entire projects from initial concept to final product. Alicia’s new role bolsters a great balance between all her professional skills in architecture, interior design, and construction management. As President, she will strategically lead the growth within the southeastern United States while mentoring, enhancing teamwork, and leading by example. Alicia appreciates the challenges, potential, and the growth opportunities she has with TLD.

Growing up near and attending high school in Flint, Michigan, Alicia was always drawn to the subjects of art and math. She attended Drexel University in Philadelphia for a year while studying Interior Design before continuing her education at Temple University where she earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Alicia is currently a Registered Interior Designer in Florida and a Licensed Architect in Florida, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

Alicia has a great perspective on life, and she realizes that every day is a precious gift. In 2021, without any family history, Alicia was diagnosed with breast cancer. That diagnosis made her appreciate that gift of life even more, and she makes sure to spend her days with a positive attitude and a joyful outlook. She loves surrounding herself with a talented team of positive people who live life to the fullest. With less than a year out of treatment, Alicia ran her very first marathon, The Big Sur International Marathon, which took place on scenic California Highway 1 from Big Sur to Carmel. She began training for this marathon through the YMCA and The Live Strong Foundation, a nonprofit organization which provides support for people affected by cancer. Alicia is a go-getter who focuses on meeting and exceeding goals, and she is not afraid of a new challenge. In addition to running her first marathon, Alicia’s bucket list is filled with challenges; many of which she has already been able to check off that list. She started her new role at TLD (check), she has learned to take life in stride (check), and recently, without ever playing an instrument previously, she learned to read music (check), and she mastered the art of piano playing (check)!

Alicia became a member of CREW Tampa Bay in 2016. In addition to years of general volunteering, she has been a chairperson for Excellence Awards, and she was Director at Large on the CREW Tampa Bay Board of Directors from 2019 to 2022. Alicia was named CREW Tampa Bay’s Rising Star in 2018.

Alicia loves the outdoors where blue skies and sunshine will always bring a smile to her face. She actually revels in Florida’s summer heat! In her spare time, she enjoys running, reading, playing sudoku, and solving crossword puzzles. She has been happily married to her husband, Eric, for over 10 years, and they both enjoy spending time with their 5-year-old Goldendoodle, Ruby.
